Faith Bible Baptist of Kharkov and it's new deaf ministry.

"The ears of the deaf shall be unstopped." - Isaiah 35:5

My brother Mike in America met a deaf lady at church while taking sign language classes. Recognizing that she was a foreigner, he asked her (through her english-speaking sign interpreter) "where are you from?" She signed "I'm from Ukraine, a city called Kharkov, where my mother & sister still live." My brother was amazed, and told her that we live & work here in Kharkov and have a bible-believing church. She gave him her mother's name (Maria Shevschenko) and address and Mike emailed it to us and we headed off to meet her one afternoon in August. After writing messages back-n-forth in russian, we quickly decided that we needed a sign translator.

Then the Lord allowed us to meet Katya, who became our full-time sign translator. Through Maria, we met her deaf daughter Ira, her deaf friends Ira, Natasha, Tanya and Slavik. From this group our deaf group was started. After 6 weeks of basic bible teaching & preaching, God was beginning to erase the religious pollution in their hearts, all of them having been poisoned by the Jehovah's Witnesses.

Then came Slava, the deaf deacon of Bro Van Sant from Simferopol, and he preached up a storm! After 1 hour 45 minutes of solid  Bible preaching, Slava didn't even make it to his invitation when Slavik stood up, signing "I want Jesus to save me." That afternoon, all 5 of our deaf folks repented and asked Christ Jesus to save them.

Through them, we've been able to reach their families. This year, we are praying that the Lord will give us doors of opportunity to reach their friends & neighbors. Pray that God will give us more fruit amongst the massive deaf community here in Kharkov. We are fighting against an 8-year head start by the JW's and other cults.
